There are certain principles that I live by that govern the way I think and live my own life.  I believe that these principles have been tested and proven over the course of history.  Those people and societies that follow these principles find themselves amongst the greatest societies in all of history.  These principles are as follows:

We the People...

I believe that the power has always been with the people.  Our government is government of the people, by the people, for the people.  Too many times politicians forget those who elected them.  When is the last time you actually heard back from a local representative, senator or other politician?  When is the last time they regularly held town hall meetings to hear your concerns or what you think?  It is my goal as your future representative to bring accountability and transparency back to the people.  I will “represent” our views on Capitol Hill.

Work

I believe in work as a principle that drives innovation, provides self-confidence, and gives people a purpose in this life.  Work provides a means for everyone to climb from one social stratum to the next.  It brings prosperity to those who grew up in a bad situation.  Work gives society purpose in life to continuing excellence.

Smaller Government

I believe in having a smaller government that regulates less and allows us to keep more of our paychecks each month.  In saying that I want a smaller government, I do not wish to say that the government has no purpose.  Government serves a purpose in establishing freedoms, and allowing all men the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  However, as we can see today, many times government gets involved in too many cases in our lives and causes many of the problems they claim to be fixing.

Self-Reliance

Self-reliance allows us as individuals, families and societies to achieve unbelievable heights.  Self-reliance is a characteristic that we all strive for because along with it, comes the freedom of choice.  We all need to be economically, spiritually, and physically self-reliant.  Government’s role should be to promote self-reliance in all three of these aspects and allow individuals to choose for themselves, the type of life they want to live, acknowledging the benefits and consequences of their decisions. Self-reliance provides all who are, a happier more enjoyable fulfilling life.

Liberty

Liberty is one of the few fundamental, God given rights that governments have no right to impede on.  Without liberty, all progress in all aspects of life are non-existent.  Liberty gives us the opportunity to grow in science without being restricted to a certain point of view.  Liberty gives us the opportunity to worship as we feel fit to without fear of reprisal from others who believe differently.  Liberty is what gives us this democracy, which allows us to disagree on many issues but still eat dinner together at night.  Liberty must be a vital element in the legislation that is passed.

Justice

Justice is the virtue of treating people in accordance with their actions.  In order to have justice in society, one premise must be recognized, that is namely, that all people are not equal and not all actions are good.  We believe in having a free democracy.  However, in order to insure that same democracy for years to come, limits and boundaries must be placed along with consequences of impeding on the rights and liberties of others.  Consequences and rewards must be established in order to have a society of justice.

Free Market

I am a strong supporter of a free market system.  A free market system cultivates innovation, and life altering new ideas.  I believe the role of government should be limited.  The more the government gets involved with a free market system, the less it becomes a free market and the less power market forces will have in ensuring economic equilibrium.  This capitalistic approach gives us not only the freedom to choose between many high quality, low cost products, but it also allows us the freedom to carve for ourselves, the life we want to live.  This approach implies that individuals, not bureaucracies will spend money more efficiently.  Taxation implies that the government knows how to spend our money more effectively than we do.  As stated earlier, I believe in the individual and believe that the individual will use their money more efficiently than the government.  I do not mind paying taxes, however, I do mind when my money is not spent wisely.
